How to play Poople

Turn the starting word into POOP. On every move, replace exactly one letter while keeping the other three in place. Each new word must be accepted by the game's word list.

Three rules to keep in mind

1. Change one letter. BELT → BOLT works: E becomes O. BELT → BOOT changes two letters, so it needs an intermediate step.
2. Keep the word four letters long. You cannot add, remove or rearrange letters. Moving the same letter to a different position still counts as a change at each position.
3. Use an accepted word at every step. The route must be made of words in the current dictionary, including the words between the start and the finish.

A complete example

BELT → BOLT → BOOT → LOOT → LOOP → POOP

This route takes five moves. The starting word does not count as a move. In this example, E changes to O, L to O, B to L, T to P, and finally L to P.

It is a valid route, but not necessarily the shortest. Part of the fun is replaying a word and discovering a smaller number of steps. Paste a route into the checker to examine your own idea.

Practice without losing your first result

Unlimited mode lets you undo the last move or restart the same word. Your first completed route remains saved when you improve it. Your best practice route and any clean finish are recorded separately.

A clean finish means no hints, no undo and no restart during that attempt. Asking for even the first letter hint marks that attempt as assisted. Restarting does not erase its hint history.

When you get stuck

Look for useful endings such as -OOL, -OOP and -OOT. Try changing a vowel as well as a consonant. The best move does not always make your word look more like POOP immediately.
